Swimming Tapes are a London-based indie five piece releasing nostalgic, dreamy guitar music, drawing comparisons with the likes of Real Estate,Belle & Sebastian and Day Wave, who the band supported after the release of their self-produced debut track Souvenirs in summer 2016.
The accompanying EP included Set the Fire, which hit the top of the HypeM and Amazing Radio charts and was named the 15th Most Essential Song of 2016 by The Line Of Best Fit ("Complete greatness clothed in a simplistic, understated charm"). Cameos hit a number of notable Spotify playlists including Indie Chillout and flagship indie playlist Ultimate Indie, taking the band's streams well into the millions.
Slots at DIY and The Line Of Best Fit ones to watch-type shows in January 2017 followed, before further online support from the likes of Indie Shuffle, Gold Flake Paint, Clash and Dork, and sets at showcase festivals such as Mirrors, Dot To Dot and The Great Escape. Radio support comes from Annie Mac (New Name for June 2017) and Huw Stephens at BBC Radio 1, Elton John and Matt Wilkinson at Beats 1, John Kennedy at Radio X and KCRW's Jason Kramer. A headline show at The Lexington came alongside the release of their 'Soft Sea Blue' EP in September 2017, before an in-store at Rough Trade and performances at Neighbourhood Festival and a Clash Magazine night in October.
With an album and further tour dates in the pipeline, 2019 is set to be a breakthrough year for Swimming Tapes.
